What do you enjoy most about working with investments?

Ultimately, it’s seeing the tangible impact we can have on people’s lives. Many of the clients I work with are hesitant to take the first step, but I’ve seen what can happen when people don’t have a plan. By putting them on the right path, we can help them achieve peace of mind, and get the most value out of their hard-earned investments.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in your field?

Be hungry for knowledge and responsibility. Strive to acquire as much experience as possible, because everything you learn in this business will compound in value. And, connect with your co-workers and colleagues along the way, because those relationships you build will help you for a lifetime.

What are some important skills or traits that you believe are essential for success in your role?

I think you need to have a love for the job. As Warren Buffett would put it, investments need to make you “tap dance into work” every morning. A corollary to that is that it’s critical to stay deep within the weeds. Developing real insights comes with a lot of detailed work. And once you’ve given up reading the 10-Ks and transcripts for yourself, what’s even the point?

What do you believe sets the BHPW team apart from others in the financial planning industry?

The team here is incredibly proactive. Every client is in constant contact, and each of them knows that they have the full support of an entire team behind them. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I play up to 6 hours of basketball on Sundays.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Japan – because I love the culture, I’ve still never been, and I eat sushi probably about 3 times a week.
